D.W. Griffith was an American film director, screenwriter and producer whose birth name was David Llewelyn Wark Griffith. He was born in LaGrange, Kentucky, USA on 22nd January 1875 and died in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA on 23rd July 1948, aged 73.

His best films as a film director include The Birth of a Nation (1915), Intolerance (1916), True Heart Susie (1919), Way Down East (1920) and Orphans of the Storm (1921), and whose best work as a screenwriter include The Birth of a Nation (1915), Intolerance (1916), Chester M. Franklin's Let Katie Do It (1916), Way Down East (1920) and Orphans of the Storm (1921).
