Sid James was an English actor whose birth name was Solomon Joel Cohen. He was born in Hillbrow, Johannesburg, South Africa on 8th May 1913 and died in Sunderland, England on 26th April 1976, aged 62.

His best films as an actor include Charles Crichton's comedy The Lavender Hill Mob (1951), Val Guest's thriller Quatermass 2 (1957), Gerald Thomas's comedy-thriller Carry on Cabby (1963), Don't Lose Your Head (1966) and Carry On Up the Khyber (1968).
