Film Synopsis
Pierre is a 50-something ironmonger who leads a contented life running the
family business in a town in northern France. One day, whilst walking
around the port, he runs into Ajit, a young Indian man in his thirties who
has just come to shore on a cargo vessel and is desperately looking for his
uncle. Even though neither speaks the other's language, Pierre and Ajit
strike up a friendship and the former offers the other a place to stay in
his home until he can find his missing relative.
Ajit's unexpected arrival is welcomed by Jeanne, the feisty Normandy woman
who has amorous designs on Pierre. Jeanne is young, pretty and vivacious,
and her best friend Marie-Thé is at a complete loss to explain just
why she is attracted to the erratic middle-aged ironmonger. It isn't
as if Pierre offers her any encouragement - quite the opposite. A warm,
sympathetic individual, Ajit appears to have all the qualities that Pierre
so patently lacks...
