Behind the Headlines (1937) Directed by Richard Rosson
Action / Adventure / Crime / Drama / Romance
Film Synopsis
Eddie Haines is radio station KBC's star reporter. His talent for scooping
big news stories has made him massively unpopular with his rival journalists,
not least of whom is his former girlfriend, Mary Bradley. So eager
is she to get her own back on Eddie that Mary resorts to disrupting his broadcasts
and stealing his equipment. One day, Mary gets herself into deep water
when she overhears the infamous Martin gang planning to rob a fortune in
gold from an armoured car on its way to Fort Knox. Thinking she can
deal with this herself, she hooks up with federal agent Potter, not knowing
that he is in the pay of the gangsters!
Before she knows it, Mary is being abducted by the crooks and transported
to a cave deep in the mountains of Kentucky. Unbeknown to Mary, Eddie
has also got wind of the heist, but he is too late to prevent it. With
the help of her enemy's stolen microphone, Mary manages to broadcast a frantic
call from help from her subterranean prison. The message is picked
up by Eddie and some bona fide FBI agents, who agree to pool their resources
to rescue the distressed woman. But time is fast running out if they
are to save Mary and bring her gun-toting abductors to justice...

The greatest French Films of all time
With so many great films to choose from, it's nigh on impossible to compile a short-list of the best 15 French films of all time - but here's our feeble attempt to do just that.
Since the 1920s, Hollywood has dominated the film industry, but that doesn't mean American cinema is all bad - America has produced so many great films that you could never watch them all in one lifetime.
From its birth in 1895, cinema has been an essential part of French culture. Now it is one of the most dynamic, versatile and important of the arts in France.
In the 1920s French cinema was at its most varied and stylish - witness the achievements of Abel Gance, Marcel L'Herbier, Jean Epstein and Jacques Feyder.
