Le Mariage du siècle (1985)
Directed by Philippe Galland

Crime Thriller
aka: Marriage of the Century

Film Synopsis

Accompanied by her father King George and his royal entourage, Princess Charlotte arrives in Paris for a banquet arranged in honour of her forthcoming marriage to Duke Duillaume of Spatz-Hohenburg.  The next in line to the throne of a small European country, Charlotte attracts plenty of attention during her stay in Paris, and one man, a frivolous playboy named Paul, wagers that he can seduce her.  What Paul hasn't reckoned on is that one of his friends, a celebrity photographer, is sure to be on hand to capture for posterity his moment of triumph.

When photographs of Paul's impromptu liaison with Charlotte end up on the front page of a celebrity magazine a scandal threatens not only her highness's impending wedding but also her accession to the throne.  With Charlotte's country in deep financial difficulty at the moment, the royal wedding was thought to be just the distraction her future subjects needed to take their minds off their present economic woes.  Duke Guillaume's decision to break of the engagement comes as a disastrous blow to the princess and her father, but it is too late in the day to call of the wedding.  A substitute bridegroom must be found - and who better than the man who caused all this trouble in the first place...
