Film Synopsis

Thérèse Voise gives up her life as a novice in a convent to manage a bookshop she has inherited from her parents and to take charge of her younger sister Denise.  The latter has fallen in love with Max, a cynical scoundrel who plans to rob his former employer, the wealthy Irène Forgeret.   After Max has raped her, Denise decides to kill herself by drowning but is saved at the last minute.   When she learns the reason for her sister's suicide attempt, Thérèse confronts Max and tells him he must marry Denise.  However, Max is more interested in Thérèse than her sister and she proves to be an easy conquest...
